  Alumni Program

KIPP Metro Atlanta currently supports nearly 400 alumni at over 40 day and boarding high schools throughout the U.S. Over the next two years, that number will grow to over 450 students. Currently the alumni program is staffed by a Director and two Alumni Advisors. The goal of the KTC alumni support program is to provide assistance to KIPP Metro Atlanta alumni in a number of crucial areas including:

Academic Support
KTC provides the resources and support to ensure that students remain on track academically by offering the following services: counseling around course selection and navigating class scheduling; academic support in the form of after school tutoring and homework assistance; workshops specifically focused on developing and sustaining good study skills and organizational skills; ongoing monitoring of progress reports, report cards, and test scores to track the academic progress of students and developing relationships with key personnel in the high schools - counselors, principals, etc. - to ensure that KTC staff are contacted when students are getting off track. One of the unique components of our program is an agreement with the student's family and high school to provide KTC with an additional copy of their report card, so we will know immediately if our students are struggling with their coursework. By maintaining access to this important information, KTC staff members are able to provide tutoring assistance as needed to those students who might be in danger of failing certain subjects.

Social and Emotional Support
KTC provides the necessary services to ensure that students are making good social decisions and that their emotional needs are being met. KTC begins its social and emotional support activities during the summer after a student's graduation from KIPP with a week-long transition program. This program is designed to help students' bridge the gap between their KIPP middle schools and their new high schools. Additionally, KTC provides Saturday School workshops for students and parents throughout the school year, these workshops cover a variety of relevant social issues including peer pressure, drugs, sex, etc. Other Saturday events sponsored by KTC include fun field trips and activities designed to provide KIPP alumni with the opportunity to reconnect with their KTC teammates.

In addition to summer and Saturday workshops, KTC sponsors forums and support groups for students to discuss the emotional and social challenges they face in high school. KTC also assists with crisis intervention for students and/or families including assistance with community services and counseling when needed.

College Support
Although KIPP Metro Atlanta alumni are not yet in college, KTC provides direct services to students and families to help facilitate the process of students applying for and gaining admission to college. KTC offers the following college preparation support services: SAT preparation and tutoring services; assistance with college applications, scholarship competitions, and financial aid applications; counseling around the college selection and admissions process; providing college tours and connecting students with students and mentors in various colleges and universities around the country and holding parent workshops to help families navigate the college admissions process.

Financial Support
Another important aspect of the KTC program is the assistance KTC is able to provide to families through the KIPP Opportunity Fund. The Opportunity Fund assists students and families with various expenses associated with high school and college including textbooks, uniforms for private schools, transportation costs, application fees, etc.

Internships and Career Services
KTC also provides assistance to students related to internships and career services. KTC attempts to match students with various summer opportunities including study abroad programs, summer outdoor camps, summer internships at local businesses and summer internships at KIPP schools. The goal of KTC's internship and career services efforts is to provide our alumni with meaningful summer experiences which will assist them in preparing themselves fully for admission to college and the competitive world beyond.
