Match Matters
Choosing the right higher education institution is key to a student’s college success. Graduation rates vary widely among institutions at all levels of competitivenessKIPP is building partnerships with colleges and universities in order to help improve college completion rates.

On Campus Support
Integration through study groups, campus clubs, alumni contacts, and activities that enhance a student’s college experience and help him or her resist negative pressure to leave school. KIPP Through College offers a variety of local and national supports.

College affordability and financial understanding
Realizing it is never too early to start planning for college, our KIPP Through College program offers our primary and middle school families access to financial literacy and college savings educational programming.  We also promote early college exposure and readiness through college campus visits and access to summer enrichment programs for our K-8 Scholars. KIPP Through College also established a scholarship endowment to provide for the “last dollar” gap funding for alumni whose financial aid packages are not quite sufficient for college matriculation.

Program Overview

Research and our own early experience have helped us understand the factors instrumental to KIPP scholars’ college success:

Academic readiness
A rigorous education is one that keeps the end in mind, and ensures that all students are prepared for the demands of higher education. At KIPP, we recognize that academic readiness is rooted in excellent teaching.

College Readiness

By influencing and supporting our students in the college application and decision process (as well as the financial aid process), we can have a direct impact on the odds that our KIPPsters will graduate.

Our KIPP Through College staff members (1) engage families early and throughout the college process; (2) conduct one-on-one meetings throughout students’ junior and senior years on topics relevant to their place in the college process; and (3) use data tools to build smart wish lists, monitor application and FAFSA submission, and analyze financial aid awards.
